Frequently Asked Questions:

Are Practices manditory ?
Absolutely - just because you made the team doesn't mean that you stop learning.

The commitment for players on higher division teams is usually greater.
Players on Division 1 – 3 teams may practice 2 – 3 times per week.  For players on Division 4 and 5 teams, the participation is probably only one practice per week.

If you’re not sure how much time will be required please speak to your Age Group Coordinator and the Team's Coach prior to the beginning of the season.

Irregular attendance at practices may have affect or impact your child's playing time.

How are Coaches Selected ?
The majority of Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Managers are parents.  You can indicate your initial interest during the online registration process, however a formal application is required for our records.
The Club provides an initial orientation for coaches and team managers along with Coach Development Session scheduled regularly throughout the season.
We feel that not only do the players have to spend time practicing and learning new things during the season - so do the coaches.
We have an excellent system in place where we can accommodate every age group and every skill level,
provided that players are registered on time.
We would like to guarantee that every child will play on a soccer team, but we have learned from past experience, if a team does not have a coach in place by the CMSA declaration date the team will be folded - and players will be forced to search for other playing opportunities. We rely on Volunteers to make the program operate.
Are you willing to help ?

Why didn't I get a phone call for Tryouts ?
Players that have outstanding registration documents will not be invited to Tryouts/ Evaluations and may not be placed on a team.
Families will receive a reminder notice of any outstanding items by EMAIL only.
Please make sure that you enter a valid email address into the Registration system.
If you think that you have completed your registration and were missed by mistake, contact your Age Group Coordinator.

Why are the Tryout / Player Evaluations important ?
Your child will be placed on a team that will be playing against teams from over 50 different organizations in the City.
To help place the team in the correct Division so that they are competitive we require everyone participation at evaluations.
We primarily use small sided games (SSG) and other activities to help determine the abilities of the player - physically, mentally, and soccer specific skills.

We have a team that been together for a long time and is new to the Club. Do I go to tryouts?
Your Team's coach has already contacted the Club and will submitting a form on behalf of the team.
As a Player you should indicate that you are on a preformed team, on the “special requests” section of the registration form. Please note that our technical committee will make the final decision on all preformed teams. The onus is on you to confirm with your coach that you have been accepted on the team.
We do require everyones participation at the scheduled tryout sessions to help determine the placement of the team into the CMSA League.

Are there any opportunities for subsidies or financial assistance available ?
Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to play. Please contact the Eastside Registrar directly for different options.
Players who require financial assistance can also apply through Kidsport which is an organization funded by various sports associations to help such cases.
Please note that Kidsport is a third party agency and additional time may be required to process your application.

Who needs photo ID cards.
All youth players require CMSA Photo ID Cards if they are registered on a Under 12 team.
All Coaches for U10 team and older are required to obtain CMSA ID Cards too.
ID Cards are obtained at the CMSA League office, located at the Calgary Soccer Centre (CSC).
Visit the CMSA website at www.calgaryminorsoccer.com to find a schedule of upcoming Photo ID time available for the upcoming season. You must book an appointment for the times listed on the CMSA website.  The cost for an ID Card is $ 10.00.

To book your appointment you will need your CMSA ID# which can be obtained from the Eastside Club Registrar or through our website.
If you are able to visit the CMSA office in August, during regular office hours, you do not need to make an appointment, but you do need your CMSA player #.

What day will my child's team have practices on ?
Once the teams have been selected, Teams will be assigned their weekly practice time.
These times should remain consistent through the entire indoor season.

The Eastside Fields /Facility Coordinator will communicate any changes directly with the Team's Coaching Staff.
This time will only be adjusted in the event of a game conflict.

Additional practice times at the Centre or at school gyms may be arranged by contacting the Eastside Fields/Facility Coordinator. These times are available at an additional cost to the Team.

What are Facility / Gate Passes
Facility /Gate Passes will be available for purchase approximately mid- September.
These passes can be purchased as a single user (1 card) or as a family (2 cards).
The passes can be used for entrance admission at any of the three Calgary Soccer facilities.

The revenue collected from the sale of the Facility / Gate Passes goes to the operation of the building facilities
to help offset their normal operating costs and facility maintenance.

The cost of the Facility / Gate Pass is not included in your Eastside Soccer registration fees.

Do I Really Need a Pass  ?
A Facility / Gate Pass, or the payment of admission, will be required when you come to watch your children's League games.

To further the development of our Players, the Eastside Soccer Club has chosen to rent practice time at the CNSEF.
You also may be required to show your Facility / Gate Pass to gain admission to the Centre during the week.

We have found that many of our Player's develop faster and are more confident as they practice in a setting that replicates a "Real Game".  Their technical ability is more consistent by practicing on artificial turf fields.
